Don't ignore the symptoms of colon cancer

When it comes to talking about colon cancer, most people prefer not to. No one likes to think about colon cancer because of how scary it can be. Almost everyone knows someone who has suffered with cancer and possibly even lost their lives to cancer.

Making matters worse is some kinds of cancer are related to areas that are generally considered taboo to talk about. Let's take colon cancer for example. No one likes to talk about what happens in the colon and often people ignore this area of his body until they have no other choice but to seek help for a problem that has gotten out of hand. When it comes to colon cancer, this can be too late.

Here are some facts that you need to know before you think you will just ignore anything that could be colon cancer symptoms.

This year alone there will be about 140,000 new cases of cancer in the colon in the US alone. Sadly there will also be some 56,000 people who will die from bowel cancer this year. This in itself should be reason to key you in that you should be at least educated on colon cancer symptoms, colon cancer stages or at least know about getting yourself screened for this disease.

While that last paragraph was a lot of bad news, there is some good news. If people pay attention to the signs of colon cancer or are regularly screened for this disease and are diagnosed in the early colon cancer stages, it is a treatable disease.

The constipation and colon cancer connection

There are several types of cancers that affect different parts of the body, a much too common one is colon cancer. Colon cancer is when a malignant tumor is found in the colon. The colon is a major part of the digestive system. The colon makes up the majority of the large intestine, and one of its main functions in the body is that it aids in the absorption of nutrients, minerals and water as well as ridding the body of waste in the form of stool.

When you first experience constipation, it is absolutely imperative that you deal with it and treated. Constipation makes the perfect habitat for bacteria to thrive in the colon. When constipation goes untreated the bacteria takes over in many cases and it may lead to serious diseases such as colon cancer.

All types of cancers develop when something goes wrong with the cells in our body, the way they divide and grow. In a healthy body, the cells divide and grow in an orderly manner. However, when that process loses control, extra unwanted cells can be produced more than the body can handle. These cells can accumulate and form precancerous masses or clumps. When the precancerous cell masses grow along the walls of the colon or rectum area they are referred to as polyps. After a period of time usually consisting of several years, those polyps can become cancerous, resulting in colon cancer.

Help Your Body Be Healthy To Prevent Getting Colon Cancer

A colonoscopy is a preventative measure to see if anything looks even slightly out of the ordinary in your colon. This is often the way things like colon cancer are caught. It's not that bears a big list of obvious warning signs, but something looks a little bit off.

>> In addition to trying to keep your body healthy to prevent getting colon cancer, you should also do what you can to screen yourself for it. If you do happen to get colon cancer, the earlier you know and can do something about it, the better the chance you have of making a complete recovery.

Let's take a look at what a colonoscopy is. Essentially, it's as simple as this. A scope is put up the anus to take a look at the colon and see that everything looks healthy.

Does a colonoscopy hurt? People think there will be pain and discomfort from a procedure that is in so delicate of an area. The truth is, doctors give sedatives before they give colonoscopies. Therefore, you should have little to no discomfort from the procedure.
